In the Middle of the Middle Kingdom

After teaching at a medical college in Xi’an, China, I returned 9 years later and made a 9-week solo circuit that encompased the 9 sacred peaks of Old Cathay, peaks where the gods of Daoism and Buddhism once presided. Facing the obstacles of traveling along China’s remoter margins and wrestling with the meaning of the Way, I ultimately converted my experiences into a rather unorthodox mystery novel, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MIDDLE KINGDOM, which even comes with its own photographs. This book is an experiment, I suppose, of how far fact can be extended into fiction and reality into romance. Take a look. I is not the usual detective novel or international thriller; inside, there’s something larger.
